UK Horse Racing's Ratings

Age

Simply the age of the running horse.

There's not a lot to say about a horse's age other than watch out for an old horse running in younger company; it's either there for a good reason or it's likely to come nowhere. This is the reason why we describe each race as "Ages range from 4 to 9 year olds".

We don't give in the title the age range of the horses which are allowed to enter as "4 year olds upwards" means nothing; we think it's more important to let you know what ages are actually running.

There is one old adage in racing, which we've verified by looking through the Model's database, and that's not to back 3 year old horses in mixed company (i.e. with horses aged 4 years and older) before Royal Ascot.
